- Aerial Cabrio Cable Airway to the top of Stanserhorn
Today, June 29th, 2012, the world first double-decker cabrio aerial cable car starts operation. And this famous Stanserhorn Cabrio Aerial Cable Car is already immortalized on a Swiss Post Stamp, as you can see in the above picture. The above photo of the Stanserhorn Cabrio Aerial Cable Car stamp is originally published at the attractive and great web site http://www.mountainstamp.com, a must for all mountain addicts! Stamp collectors and mountain lovers will be excited as they discover a whole new fascinating world at the mountain stamp website. I personally like that mountain stamp website that much that I put it to my favorites!
The ascent from the small village of Stans to the top of Stanserhorn is made by the original funicular and the world first Arial Double Decker Cabrio Cable Car in 25 minutes. On top of Stanserhorn a visit to the brand new revolving Restaurant is a must! From there it’s just a five minutes’ walk to the summit and its spectacular view! On a sunny day, and there are plenty of them in summer, the visitors can see as far as to the Black Forest in Germany, Alsace in France, the whole mountain panorama including Pilatus, Bernese Alps and the Lake of Lucerne.
History
The Stanserhorn funicular was opened in 1893. The original funicular track was divided into three sections and was altogether approximately four kilometers long. It was a real master piece built by the railway pioneers Franz Josef Bucher and Josef Durrer.

A lightning struck 1970 and caused a full fire that ruined the hotel and the funicular’s third section. This was the end of the three section funicular. Only the lower section remained, but the upper two funicular sections were closed and replaced with an aerial cable car in 1975. The Hotel was never rebuilt, but there is a Restaurant on its foundation.

Today, the new Double Decker Cabrio Aerial Cable Car is transporting the first tourists to the Top of Stanserhorn. It’s a stunning experience to stay on the open upper deck and feel the wind in the hairs and the warm sunshine on the skin! Enjoying the great mountain and lakes panorama from there is a unique adventure! There is no other aerial cable car worldwide offering a similar open air ride! As there are not yet videos in English available, I show the following video about the new double decker cabrio aerial cable car with German comment:
Enjoy the freedom of the mountains without disturbing windows!
The 28 Million Swiss Franc Double Decker Cabrio Aerial Cable Car has four towers and 1’400 square meters of woodland had to be cleared. The ride lasts 6 minutes and 465 persons can be transported per hour.
This world first Cabrio Aerial Cable Car was constructed by the Doppelmayr/Garaventa Group, the world leader in cable car engineering. Here is another video explaining how the cabin was transported and mounted:
